Growing Up Framed

01/18 - Present (unfinished until there’s no room left to grow)

This is a collection of snake skin from my pet snake Ramen. As he grows, he sheds his skin. And the sheds get larger, the larger he gets. As a parent, I felt the need to document his growth. I framed up his sheds, one after the other. They way parents mark their child’s height on a door frame.

I chose not to change the frame size to visually explore how growth is affected by limited space available to grow. As growing individuals, we need to accommodate to the space it takes to grow. Once we outgrow ourselves, we will uncomfortably loose pieces of ourselves trying to fit in.
